Colorado Rockies Pull Off MLB's Unlikeliest Series Sweep Against Reigning Champion Texas Rangers

On Sunday, MLB's unlikeliest team put on a defensive masterclass to complete an improbable series sweep over the reigning World Series champs.

The ultimate David vs. Goliath series unfolded as the Colorado Rockies (9-28) welcomed the reigning champ, Texas Rangers (22-17), for a three-game homestand.

Winning Friday and Saturday's matchups, Colorado faced a genuine pick-me-up upset opportunity to complete their first series sweep of the year.

The Rockies put on a defensive highlight reel for the hopeful fans at Coors Field. Colorado put on a show with several flashy double plays, a tricky back-to-the-plate catch, and some excellent shortstop work from Ezequiel Tovar.

Rockies infielder Ryan McMahon pulled off a catch on a foul ball hit by Corey Seager. As the ball swayed mid-air, McMahon danced underneath it until it finally landed in his glove.

Rockies pitcher Ty Blach looked on with relief. The starter put on a solid performance on the mount through five innings.

Ezequiel Tovar's go-ahead two-run homer in the first inning was one-upped by his standout defensive play later in the game.

Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle preserved Colorado's lead in the fourth by chasing down a rocket at the warning track. Second baseman Brendan Rodgers joined the defensive spree by Colorado with a flashy diving catch in the eighth inning.

The Rockies held on to their 3-1 lead for the win on Sunday, capping the weekend Cinderella run. For the first time in a long time, the Rockies won, spectacularly.

Still boasting the second-worst MLB record, the Rockies can only hope to ride the momentum of this series, now or never, for a shot at reviving their season.
