College Slugger Drills Game-Tying Grand Slam, Gets Ejected For Bat Flip

College baseball is officially back! How do we know? Because a player got ejected for flipping his bat after a massive home run. In the final game of a four-game weekend series against Nebraska, Grand Canyon slugger Tyler Wilson hit a massive grand slam in the fifth inning.

The Huskers led 8-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Grand Canyon put the first four runners on base and cut the lead to 8-4. That's when Wilson strode to the plate with the bases loaded and no outs.

He promptly deposited a 1-1 pitch over the right-field fence to tie the game at 8. Wilson carried the bat with him about halfway to first base, gave it a flip and then trotted around the bases.

After a euphoric jog around the diamond, Wilson learned that umpires had ejected him for the bat flip. Not right away though.

As you can see in the video below, Wilson celebrates with his on-base teammates before bounding towards the dugout to continue the celebration with the rest of his mates. Watch the home plate umpire, though, who signals that Wilson is ejected after Wilson crosses home plate.

A rather bizarre scene.

As far as bat flips go, this one was pretty tame. The kid just blasted a GRAND SLAM to tie a baseball game. If you can't flip your bat after a game-tying four-run, four-bagger, when can you flip your bat?

I know the answer for some people is: never. I'm not one of those people. Let the kids have some fun. Baseball needs more of this, not less. There's a reason that the game isn't as popular with younger people as other sports. That's getting worse as the years go by, too.

If pitchers don't want hitters flipping their bats, don't give up home runs.

It's pretty simple.
