We've Got An Insane College Hockey Fight Between Arizona State And Alaska-Fairbanks
If you said to me, "Yo, where do you think the craziest hockey fight this season will come from?" I, like most people, would have said the NHL, maybe the AHL.
There's a case to be made for the LNAH where 52-year-old Donald Brashear just threw hands this week.
While that was one hell of a tilt, it's not the one that blew my mind the most this week.
That honor goes to this unholy slugfest that happened in an NCAA game between the Arizona State Sun Devils and the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
These two teams played each other two weeks earlier at Tempe's Mullett Arena, but are playing a pair in Fairbanks this weekend.
There appears to be some bad blood, which manifested itself in a complete free-for-all on Friday night.
Sun Devils defenseman Tucker Ness and Nanooks blueliner Dawson Bruneski found themselves in the box with matching roughing minors late in the game.
With just 16 seconds left, a scuffle broke out along the boards with some pushing and shoving, and that's when Bruneski and Ness decided to hop out of the box a little early and square up.
The poor woman working the penalty box could only stand there and watch it happen.
What followed was a marathon bout of biblical proportions that landed these dudes some major PIMs and probably more.
No, there's not supposed to be fighting in college hockey… but damn, that was one hell of a fight.
There was a code violation on Ness' part when he landed a few big shots while Bruneski was on the ice, but those fellas sure went the distance.
After that, they were promptly sent to the showers. NCAA rules usually dictate a game misconduct comes with an additional one-game suspension, but this fight might land them a couple extra days off.
The game ended up being called with 11 seconds left on the game clock, which handed the Nanooks a 3-1 win.
What's wild is that these two teams play again on Saturday night.
Surely, that game is going to be called tighter… at least tighter than it was on Friday night.
