CNN Tries To Justify OJ Simpson Acquittal In Name Of Systemic Racism
O.J. Simpson died on Thursday. His legacy is not as "complicated" as the legacy media portrays it as. Simpson – despite an erroneous acquittal – murdered two people, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.
And yet, various media personalities sought to justify his freedom on Thursday in the name of systemic racism.
CNN analyst Marc Lamont Hill admitted Simpson killed two people in cold blood. However, he referred to his acquittal as the "necessary result of a racist criminal legal system."
Rightfully, X users roasted Hill for the absurdity of his point.
Later on CNN, perhaps the most sympathetic network as it pertained to Simpson's death, a correspondent named Stephanie Elam tried to remind viewers that Simpson's acquittal was a cheerful day for the black community.
"So many people were just happy to see that someone who is rich and famous, and black, could get away with... er ... what other people did in the system as well, too," she said.
Oh. Well, if he was black and famous, that changes the equation. I wish someone would have told us.
Elam is, of course, referring to how the community lost trust in the Los Angeles justice system after police brutally beat Rodney King, a black man whose case prompted public protests, riots, and police reform.
Still, the defense of O.J.'s freedom raises a more enduring point. His trial helped mainstream identity politics.
"OJ killed two people and used the actual deaths of people killed by racists decades before as justification for why he shouldn’t pay for his own crimes," added Clay Travis.
"He never asked for forgiveness or apologized. Rot in hell, Juice."
Simply put, O.J. benefited grandly from the hypothesis that black people are systemic victims of a racist institution and thus he should be exonerated as a consequence.
And he was.
As Christopher F. Rufo put it, the verdict was the embodiment of critical race theory. Simpson likely goes to prison for the murders if he were of any other skin color.
But he wasn't. He was black, at the right time to be black on trial for murder in LA.
The trial of O.J. Simpson underscored the power of the race card, an excuse that has grown profoundly since. No wonder CNN used O.J.'s death to justify his acquittal.
