Clemson DL Peter Woods Squats 700 Pounds Like It's Nothing

Some athletes are just built different. Clemson defensive lineman Peter Woods is one of those athletes.

Summer workouts are in full swing for Clemson football — which means Tigers players are putting in work on the field and in the weight room. And while testing his max squat last week, Woods showed off his superhuman strength. A video posted to Clemson Football's social media account shows the true sophomore squatting a whopping 700 pounds… and making it look easy!

A five-star recruit, Woods began his college career as ESPN's No. 9 overall prospect after winning four-straight state titles in Alabama. Last season, Woods recorded 27 tackles (2.5 for loss) and a forced fumble in 307 snaps over 12 games. He also earned Freshman All-American honors from 247Sports, the FWAA, On3, College Football News, College Football Network and Pro Football Focus.

"I just pride myself in doing my job," Woods said. "People say two-and-a-half (tackles for loss), no sacks, but you turn on the tape, it's there."

Now, Woods is hoping to top those numbers in Year 2. And head coach Dabo Swinney says he intends for the 19-year-old to change positions frequently along the Tigers' front four.

"He’ll play everywhere because he’s one of our team’s best pass rushers," Swinney said in April. "I don't see a world where he doesn't bounce around a little bit."

Woods entered spring practice listed at 315 pounds, but his goal is to hit 285-290 pounds — his high school weight — by the time the season rolls around. He says he's almost there. Clearly, though, he's not sacrificing any strength with that weight loss.
