Chris Simms Calls Jalen Hurts 'Most Overrated Player In Football'
Chris Simms is not impressed by Jalen Hurts. Like, at all.
In a recent interview with the PHNX Cardinals podcast, the former NFL quarterback made a pretty bold statement.
"I respect a lot about Jalen Hurts," Simms said. "But I think Jalen Hurts is also like the most overrated player in football."
Simms reiterated his previous claim that the Philadelphia Eagles, as a team, make their QB look better than he actually is.
"That’s me, I know I’m wrong. I take a lot of crap about that comment. But he plays quarterback for a team that’s an all-star team, they have the best O-line in football, it’s not even close," Simms explained.
"I just think if you put some other quarterback in Philly — you put Kyler Murray in there — you’d say ‘Damn, Kyler’s amazing. Is he the MVP of football?’"
He continued: "And I think we lose sight of all that a little bit. It gets into the quarterback team thing where right now we’re all about the quarterback. And he’d be one of those guys that I certainly would go, hey, when Kyler is on his game, he is every bit in the class of Jalen Hurts in my opinion."
Chris Simms Regularly Criticizes Jalen Hurts
This is hardly the first time Simms has had a hot take about the Eagles' QB. He once said Philly "would still be really damn good" with Garnder Minshew under center. And ahead of the 2022 season, he had Hurts ranked as the league's 25th-best quarterback.
Hurts, of course, led his team to Super Bowl LVII that season.

But the 2023 Eagles saw a complete and total collapse in the second half of the season. After spending the first 10 weeks as the MVP favorite, Hurts struggled to protect the football to close out the year. The former second-round pick threw a career-high 15 interceptions and produced 20 total turnovers.
Overall, though, he saw plenty of individual success. A Pro Bowler, Hurts led Philly to an 11-6 record in the regular season. The 25-year-old also passed for the most completions (352), yards (3,858), and touchdowns (23) of his career.
It's no secret the Eagles have some soul-searching to do. But one thing is for certain: They aren't replacing Jalen Hurts with Kyler Murray or Gardner Minshew anytime soon. No matter what Chris Simms thinks about it.
