Chennedy Carter Posts That Caitlin Clark Brings Nothing To WNBA, (Attendance, Ratings Must Not Count)
There’s no two ways about it: Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has brought more fans and popularity to the WNBA than the league has had in decades.
During a game earlier this year in Seattle, the Storm’s home court hosted its biggest crowd in history thanks in large part to Clark’s presence. Record numbers of fans are tuning in to watch games in which she plays. Sure, the rest of the league’s games might not be getting the same viewership numbers, but it’s far better than what the WNBA has experienced in years past.
However, Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter doesn’t think that Clark has brought much to the league.
This is the same Carter that shouldered Clark to the ground in Saturday’s 71-70 Fever win, and who refused to answer any questions about the incident after the game. Despite being silent with the media, she liked several tweets from fans that suggested she should do it again.
Bullying the star that has made your league popular doesn’t seem to be the wise move. But Carter is doing it because she doesn’t think Clark is that talented and hasn’t done much for the league.
The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach tweeted out a screenshot of Carter’s reply to a post in which she said that Clark doesn’t bring anything to the WNBA.
Okay, so I guess she’s just ignoring all the things I mentioned at the beginning about record crowds and viewership numbers. That in turn boosts revenue, and could increase player’s salaries eventually.
But here Carter is continuing to be unapologetic about her actions. If that’s not a microcosm of the pettiness and envy of Clark that’s permeating the WNBA, I don’t know what is.
