Charles Barkley Destroys Caitlin Clark's Haters
Charles Barkley isn't backing down from his belief that Caitlin Clark is being treated unfairly in the WNBA.
The former NBA star turned TV star went mega-viral when he ripped WNBA players for their jealousy and treatment of the Indiana Fever star.
For those of you who might have missed his comments, you can watch them below.
Charles Barkley doubles down on Caitlin Clark comments.
Well, anyone thinking Barkley would backtrack or apologize is in for some disappointment. He's doubling down on his stance that Clark's WNBA rivals are "petty" and jealous.
Barkley said the following during a conversation with Doug Bell, according to Sporting News:
"Petty jealousy and it’s really unfortunate because of what she’s done for the game. You know, listen, I believe in rookie hazing, but some of the criticism has gone overboard, and I think it’s really unfair because, man, you look at the ratings for the draft, for the WNBA — she’s making everybody money. And I think she’s got some deals, good for her. I mean, the girl set the record for the most points ever scored in college. I mean, that’s pretty incredible. But the girls got to grow up and like, 'Yo, you know what? I can go at her hard on the basketball court, but the visibility and stuff she’s bringing to the league is only going to fill all our wallets up in the long run.' It’s just petty jealousy, and it’s really unfortunate."
I think it's safe to say Barkley has zero intention of pivoting his stance, and he shouldn't change his view. He's 100% correct.
The attitude towards Clark from many in the media and WNBA is simply bizarre. Clark has brought more attention to the WNBA than the league has ever had before.
The league has an incredible opportunity to elevate itself to the next level. Everyone involved should be incredibly grateful. Unfortunately, it seems many are not.
Chennedy Clark hammered her with a cheap shot, Angel Reese is claiming she's the reason people are watching, A'ja Wilson and others have made it a race issue, Natasha Cloud told new fans to stop talking and it seems like the WNBA is poised to blow this opportunity.
At some point, you just have to call out the nonsense of the situation, and that's exactly what Barkley and others are doing. Hopefully, women in the WNBA realize that a rising tide raises all boats. Celebrate Clark and her new fans, compete hard and knock off the nonsense. It's not hard to figure out. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
