Even CBS Was Disgusted With 'Unwatchable' Virginia In Its Ugly NCAA Tournament Loss To Colorado State

Virginia's offensive performance - if you can even call it that - against Colorado State in the Cavaliers' First Four game on Tuesday night was disgusting. Everyone with eyes and a brain who had watched one of Virginia's offensive possessions during the regular season was expecting a brick fest from UVA, but what we were forced to watch in the Cavaliers' 67-42 loss was a pure horror show.

Most didn't believe that the 23-11 Virginia team deserved a spot in the tournament, and based on the team's performance against Colorado State, those people are correct.

Virginia put up a whopping 14 points in the first half and made just one shot from the field in the final 10:30 of the opening half. The Cavaliers scored a total of two points, coming on two made free throws, over the final 9:20 of the first half.

Gross.

While UVA doubled up its point total in the second half before losing by 25, the game was physically painful to watch.

CBS Blames The Selection Committee For Putting Virginia In

Things were so awful that even CBS' Wally Szczerbiak - who works for the network broadcasting the NCAA Tournament - not only ripped Virginia, but the tournament committee for giving the Cavaliers a spot in the field.

"This performance matters by Virginia. Mountain West completely blew them off the floor. Mountain West, we’ve been saying, has been completely under-seeded, and the way you perform in this tournament, it puts the committee on notice," Szczerbiak explained. "They made a mistake putting Virginia into the NCAA Tournament. Every bracketologist was saying it, they go out and play like this."

"It's unwatchable basketball the way they played on national TV."

Even the most casual of college basketball fans welcome the NCAA Tournament each and every year. The truth is, we'll watch any game you put in front of us, but as Szczerbiak said, that game was absolutely unwatchable.

It's not like Colorado State is the most electrifying team either, and if you couple that with a Virginia offense that went over 10 minutes of game-time without making one single shot, you have the nightmare scenario that unfolded on Tuesday night.

Colorado State entered the game with the 30th best defense in the nation according to KenPom, but still, a team that scores 14 points in a single half doesn't deserve to be in the tournament field.
