Cam Newton Continues To Talk Just To Talk, Says Brock Purdy 10th Best Player On His Team
Cam Newton has made it clear that he isn't the biggest believer in Brock Purdy, but now he's just talking down about the San Francisco 49ers' quarterback for the sake of filling air.
Back in December in the middle of what would turn into a six-game winning streak for San Francisco, Newton deemed Jared Goff, Dak Prescott, Tua Tagovailoa, and Purdy as "game-managers" as opposed to game-changers.
"They're not difference-makers," Newton said on his podcast. "[They're being asked] not to lose. I don't give a damn what you do. You don't have to score every time. You just don't have to throw a pick every time either. If we're going to call a spade a spade, a game-manager is different than a game-changer."
"Game-manager is not a negative connotation," Newton continued. "'Cam, what do you mean by game-manager?' My definition of that managing player is a player who has the ability to make the right play at the right time, protecting the football at all costs."
Newton's comments made major headlines given just how great Purdy was playing at the time. Fast-forward to today and all Purdy has managed to do is lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Despite Purdy leading San Francisco to a comeback win over the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship game, Newton has still managed to find a way to pick at the quarterback's abilities on the field.
According to Newton, Purdy is just the 10th-best player on this 49ers team.
"Man, look, I ain’t recanting sh-t, and if you really want to just be honest, if you add in the defensive talent, and you add in the offensive talent, Brock Purdy is the 10th-best player on this team," Newton said. "OK cool, did he have a great game? Yes. Has he been playing out of his mind? Yes. Is he a quarterback that’s hot? Yes."
"But he’s still the 10th-best player on his team."
The logical response to Newton's comments is a very simple okay?
There isn't a logical person walking the planet who is saying that Purdy is the best player or the best athlete on this San Francisco team. Nobody is claiming that Purdy is a better football player than Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, Nick Bosa, or Fred Warner, just to name a few certified studs on the 49ers' roster.
Newton got attention when he called Purdy a "game-manager" back in December and that's the only goal of his latest rant about the quarterback.
