Steelers' Cam Heyward Left Dumbfounded After 'Prince Freaking Harry' Hands Him Award At NFL Honors
We can now officially confirm that Cam Heyward is a big fan of the British royal family.
The Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle won the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award on Thursday. The Steelers had nominated Heyward for this award six times in total over the course of his career. Heyward runs a charity called Heyward House Foundation, which helps several different charities in the Pittsburgh area.
So when he got the award last night at the NFL Honors, you’d think he’d be elated about the results.
But something else gripped his attention instead.
To the surprise of everyone, Prince Harry walked up on stage to present the NFL’s most prestigious award to Heyward. The Duke of Sussex had just flown back to his home in California after visiting his cancer-stricken father, King Charles III, in England. Apparently, he had enough time in his schedule to travel to fly to Las Vegas to help out the NFL.
The prince announced that the Steelers tackle had earned the NFL’s most prestigious honor. But first, he took the opportunity to poke fun at the sport itself.
"Really love how you stole Rugby from us," Harry, a big rugby fan, said.
We didn’t steal rugby, we just made it far better.
After calling Heyward up on stage, Heyward needed a minute to collect himself and process meeting royalty.
"Prince freaking Harry," a dazed Heyward said. "I’m in shock, that’s Prince Harry."
After collecting himself, Heyward did give an incredible speech worthy of the moment. But I think it's safe to say that nothing in his NFL career will excite him as much as meeting Prince Harry.
Well, unless he gets a Super Bowl ring. He still doesn’t have one of those.
