Colin Cowherd Shares 'Harsh Truth' About Caitlin Clark, WNBA: VIDEO

Colin Cowherd didn't hold back when discussing how important Caitlin Clark is to the WNBA.

Clark dominated the Washington Mystics Wednesday night as the Indiana Fever notched the team's third straight victory.

Prior to the big game from the former Iowa star, Cowherd spoke about her importance during his Wednesday episode of "The Herd," and he was spitting absolute fire.

Colin Cowherd makes it clear the WNBA desperately needs Caitlin Clark.

The FS1 star had one very simple message for his viewers:

Clark is the most important player in the league.

He said the following, in part, when talking about the Indiana Fever rookie:

"Caitlin Clark to some degree is saving the WNBA. This is not Conor McGreogr. The UFC was ascending and profitable. This is not Bryce Harper to baseball. Teams in baseball are and remain flush with cash. This wasn't exactly Tiger Woods to golf. You still had legendary tournaments like the US Open, the British Open, The Masters that people watched and coveted. That's not so with the WNBA. It is an incredibly harsh truth. This league was in some trouble. They weren't making money, they were downsizing and arenas nobody's watching the finals. And, it has been totally subsidized. Not sort of, kind of remotely. Totally subsidized by the NBA. But that's okay. That is okay. Lots of businesses have to be subsidized. Lots of businesses need a catalyst to take them from nonprofit to big profit. But never forget this. This is the Caitlin Clark effect. She may not be good enough to be on the Olympic team, but she is easily the greatest player without even playing half a season. She is the greatest player for business in the history of the league. And it's not close."

That's about as blunt and straightforward as it gets when discussing Caitlin Clark. Cowherd is 100% correct. Prior to her leaving Iowa for the pros, nobody really cared about the WNBA at a high level.

The league didn't move the needle, it didn't generate big TV ratings and not many people were rushing out to buy tickets to a WNBA game.

Now, games featuring Clark are played in packed arenas and put up monster TV ratings. She's the WNBA's golden goose, and yet, people still hate her!

Jealousy is an ugly disease that, unfortunately, has been on display since she was picked first overall by the Indiana Fever.

Caitlin Clark is a star, she's elevated the WNBA to unprecedented heights and Cowherd's assessment is 100% correct. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
