Caitlin Clark Suffers Nasty Spill In Loss To Connecticut Sun
Caitlin Clark's first week in the WNBA has been a grueling stretch, now plagued by a slight injury concern.
The Iowa star suffered a nasty spill during Monday's 88-84 loss to the Connecticut Sun. Playing defense on Tyasha Harris during a second-quarter sequence, Clark's left ankle rolled forward in an awkward bend, which kept the Iowa phenom grimacing in pain on the ground.
As the play continued, Clark stayed on the ground, unable to get up unassisted until Indiana Fever coach Christie Sides called a timeout to give her star a break.
The rook took a second to gather herself but managed to get up and walk back to the bench without help. Clark walked back to the locker room with a member of the Fever's personnel. Moments later, she returned to the Indiana bench to cheer on her team. Clark is expected to finish out the game, hoping to serve Connecticut payback for a crushing loss last week.
WATCH:
While Clark's stardom struggles to take off early in her pro career, her tenacity is on display, which should carry her through more challenging times in the pros. She missed the final four minutes of the half and exited with eight points (2-of-6) in 11 minutes. Clark hit 2 of 5 3-point attempts in the first half.
What initially appeared to be a serious ankle injury may only be a minor setback for Clark. As the broadcast noted, Clark came into Monday's game against the Sun with a lingering ankle issue. She started the second half for the Fever.
The Sun team was responsible for spoiling Clark's debut game in the WNBA last Tuesday, demolishing the Fever, 92-71, in front of a sold-out, 10,000-person crowd at Mohegan Sun Arena. Clark finished the game with 20 points (5-of-15) and 10 turnovers.
