Caitlin Clark Feels 'No Disappointment' After Being Left Off 2024 Summer Olympics Roster
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark doesn’t seem too heartbroken over the fact that she was left off the USA’s women’s Olympic basketball roster.
Over the weekend, the USA Olympic committee announced that Clark would not be a part of the 12-player roster that will compete in Paris for the gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics. The move shocked many Americans, especially given that fans seem to care far more about women’s basketball games when Clark is playing.
In some ways, it would make sense that those who assembled the team would lean more on veterans than rookies (seven of the 12 players have prior Olympic experience playing in the 5-on-5 format). But even so, it seems like a move that will impact the appeal of the team heading to France.
However, Clark doesn’t seem fazed by being left off the roster. During a media availability session Sunday, she told reporters that she felt "no disappointment" that she won’t be competing in the Olympics.
"I’m excited for them. I’m gonna be rooting them on to win gold, Clark said. I was a kid that grew up watching the Olympics, so it’ll be fun to watch them."
"I think it just gives you something to work for," she continued. "That’s a dream. Hopefully one day I can be there. I think it’s just a little more motivation. You remember that. Hopefully in four years, when four years comes back around, I can be there."
In many ways, this is another example of how Clark is maturely handling all of the highs and lows of her first year in the WNBA. She could have easily said she felt slighted, but instead expressed support for the players that are going.
Furthermore, Fever coach Christie Sides said that Clark told her she is now extra motivated to make the 2028 team. Sides noted that Clark texted her that they "woke a monster."
She might be a rookie, but she’s handling adversity with veteran-like character.
