Caitlin Clark Beats Angel Reese Again, Reese Says Flagrant Foul Was 'Basketball Play'
For the second time in two tries, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever have defeated Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky.
After beating the Sky in Chicago two weeks ago, 71-70, the teams played another closely contested game. The Fever emerged with the 91-83 win, with Clark nearly notching a triple-double.
She scored 23 points, dished out nine assists and grabbed eight rebounds. It was one of the best performances of her young WNBA career.
Angel Reese had a double-double, but she scored just 11 points on 4-11 shooting while grabbing 13 rebounds.
However, just like in the first meeting between these two teams, the big story was a foul by a Chicago Sky player against Caitlin Clark.
In the first meeting, Chennedy Carter hip-checked Clark while the rookie sensation waited for an in-bounds pass. The WNBA assessed a flagrant foul on Carter, but not until after the game.
In Sunday's contest, Reese allegedly attempted to block Clark's layup attempt, but she came nowhere close to hitting the ball and instead caught Clark square in the side of her head.
After the first matchup against the Fever, Chennedy Carter refused to answer questions about Caitlin Clark. Angel Reese skipped talking to the media entirely and was fined by the WNBA.
On Sunday, Reese did speak with the media, but she didn't seem overly interested in discussing the flagrant foul.
As the reporter began asking the question, Reese cut him off, "It was a basketball play."
The reporter followed up by asking if Reese agreed with the call, to which she responded, "It was a basketball play. I can't control the refs. They affected the game, obviously, a lot today."
Reese played 31 minutes, sitting at times because of foul trouble. She committed five fouls in the contest.
Clark, as usual, elected to take the high road in her postgame availability. A reporter asked her what was "going through her mind" after the foul.
"I need to make these two free throws, that's all I'm thinking about," Clark said with a smile.
"It's just part of basketball, it is what it is. She's trying to make a play on the ball and get the block. It happens," Clark added.
It's probably a smart move for both women not to fan the flames because we already know what's coming this week from all the media pundits. Surely, everyone has a take on the foul.
And that's good! People are talking about the WNBA, which is new and great for the league right now.
Clearly, the Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese rivalry is drumming up interest in the sport. For those wondering, we don't have to wait long to see these teams play each other again.
