Buccaneers GM Gives Baker Mayfield A Compliment By Saying He's 10 On 'The Pr--k Scale'

Baker Mayfield signed a three-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the heels of a solid season that saw him lead the team to the post-season after bouncing from Carolina to Los Angeles the year before.

On Wednesday, the team held an official press conference to formally announce the three-year $100 million deal, with Bucs GM Jason Licht giving him one heck of a compliment.

Even if didn't exactly sound like a compliment.

Licht was asked a lengthy question about how Mayfield's toughness helped the team make it to the postseason for the fourth straight season.

"He set the tone on this team, with his um, for lack of a better word, out of 1-10, he's probably a 10 on the prick scale," Licht said.

That compliment in diss-clothing got a big laugh from the media.

"Thank you," Mayfield said. "I'll take that."

Obviously, Baker Mayfield got what Licht was saying. Although, even if he didn't, his new deal probably would've made that comment easier to take.

If you're paying me $100 million, go ahead and say whatever you want.

We all know what he means by that though. That's kind of what everyone wants out of every player on their team. You want guys like Mayfield that can be tough to play against.

Licht elaborated on that further once the laughter had subsided.

"Baker's kind of an offensive lineman in a quarterback's body. It's what's rallied this team this year and he is a big part of it," Licht said.

Of course, playing to sign that deal is a whole different ball game than living up to the deal you've signed. Mayfield was solid in 2023 (and was even pretty good in LA in late 2022). But now that he has his money, it's put up or shut up time.

If he morphs back into Browns/Panthers Baker, he's sure to start hearing it from critics once again.
