Brian Kelly May Have Tipped Off The NFL The Commanders' Plans To Draft Jayden Daniels

As long as the franchise holds onto the pick, it's safe to assume that the Washington Commanders will be selecting a quarterback second overall in the upcoming NFL Draft. Who that quarterback may be is largely still in question, but LSU head coach may have revealed that Jayden Daniels will be the QB to have his name called.

During LSU's recent pro day where Daniels impressed, Kelly spoke to the media about his now-former quarterbacks' abilities on the field. After hyping the Heisman Trophy winner up, he mentioned Washington by name.

"He is going to be so committed to taking care of himself and they don't have to worry about size or that he doesn't weigh enough," Kelly began. "Lamar (Jackson) has done pretty well for his size, (Patrick) Mahomes I wouldn't consider him a giant, cause he's going to get the ball out to his playmakers and make plays for Washington."

Kelly mentioning Daniels in the same breath as Mahomes and Jackson is worth some attention, but not as much as him alluding to Daniels making plays for Washington.

Some NFL draft analysts are split between Caleb Williams and Daniels being the top quarterback in the 2024 Draft class, meaning that it would come as no surprise to see the LSU star going second overall.

This could be the classic situation of a coach complimenting one of his players and essentially pitching a team to draft his quarterback, but the nonchalance of Kelly's comments about Daniels to Washington makes it sound like he may know something only folks inside the Commanders' front office know at this point.

OutKick's Armando Salguero recently touched on Kelly's comment about Daniels to the Commanders noting that the development puts the New York Giants in a very interesting spot with the sixth-overall pick. JJ McCarthy and Michael Penix Jr. could be in play for the G-men, but Drake Maye out of North Carolina could be the best fit for the franchise.
