Auburn Football Player Receives Major Medical Update After Being Hit In Fatal Shooting

Auburn running back Brian Battie is making a little progress after surviving a fatal shooting.

Brian was hit in the same shooting that left his brother Tommie dead outside of a mall in Florida back on May 18th. Darryl Brookings was arrested and charged with carrying out the deadly shooting.

The talented Auburn football player has been in the hospital ever since, and had been in very serious condition. Fortunately, it appears he's turned a corner in his recovery.

Auburn RB Brian Battie makes progress after being shot.

After several weeks in a hospital, the Auburn running back is finally showing signs of movement. Battie, who remains in the ICU, is also off a ventilator, but needed a tracheotomy in order to breathe.

An update to a GoFundMe set up for Battie and his family announced the following Wednesday:

"Brian is still currently in the ICU but we are fortunate to share that on Saturday, Brian was able to give a "thumbs up" to his mom with his left hand and showed movement in his left leg. The right side of his body had not shown any sign of movement until two days ago, by the grace of God, Brian was able to move his right knee and leg. This news comes as a miracle, but Brian is a fighter and always has been. Brian did have the ventilator removed this morning and needed a tracheotomy. Brian has a long journey ahead of him and the Battie Family continues to need everyone’s support and prayers as they are still grieving the loss of Pooh, while praying Brian’s recovery keeps going in a positive direction. We thank everyone for all of the support, generosity, and prayers that have blessed the Battie family thus far and we pray that it continues to lift them up through is unimaginable tragedy."

While it's not a massive improvement, it's great to hear Battie is showing signs of movement nearly three weeks after the deadly shooting happened outside of the Sarasota mall.

Unfortunately, there's still a very long way to go for the SEC football player. Court documents also claimed he could have "permanent paralysis" from the shooting that killed his brother.

It's an absolutely brutal situation, and that's why any positive health update is great news.

Battie had 227 rushing yards and one touchdown for the Tigers last season. He previously played for the USF Bulls before transferring to the Tigers. Hopefully, he continues to trend up. Let me know your thoughts on the incredibly sad situation at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
