Bruins Brandon Carlo Scores Playoff Goal On Same Day His Son Was Born
Dad strength is undefeated. The latest example comes again from the NHL Playoffs courtesy of Boston Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo.
Carlo remained in Boston for the birth of his second son, Crew, who was born around 3:30 a.m. on Monday morning. After spending several hours with his wife and their newborn, Carlo boarded a flight to Florida and landed just a couple of hours before the start of Game 1 against the Panthers.
Carlo, who is not a prolific goalscorer (he had just four goals in 76 regular season games), potted an important goal to give Boston a 3-1 lead in the final minute of the second period.
An incredible moment for Carlo, and the Bruins went on to win the game 5-1.
After the game, the defenseman had a sense of humor about the entire situation. He joked that doctors did everything to make sure the baby came on time, so he could play in Monday night's playoff game.
"We sped it up as fast as we could. We were flipping her around, putting her upside down — whatever we could do to get that baby out of there," Carlo said to laughters from the gathered media.
Carlo added that he and his wife slept for about one hour before doctors induced labor, which lasted just 30 minutes.
It was just Sunday night when Dallas Stars center Radek Faksa scored the series-clinching goal in Game 7 of his team's series with the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights after earlier promising his son he'd score.
Carlo and his wife had a daughter, Wren, in September 2021. He now has a newborn and a two-and-a-half-year-old. So, he should probably get used to operating on minimal sleep and then playing in NHL games.
The Bruins and Panthers play one more game in Florida, on Wednesday, before heading back to Boston for Game 3 on Friday.
