DeAndre Jordan Pokes Fun At Blake Griffin Over Retirement News: 'What a Quitter'
Blake Griffin is retiring … man, time goes by!
We're not all as spry as the day Griffin joined the league in 2009 and became a phenom thanks to his superb athleticism and penchant for posterizing opponents.
The six-time All-Star's jumping ability reeled in millions of new NBA fans hoping to catch more high-flying dunks by Griffin. But Griffin's finally at the point, and age (35), to retire officially, announcing his plans for retirement after this NBA season.
Griffin will surely be remembered as a staple of 2010s NBA action; maybe the last bit of good pro basketball we'll see for a while.
Amid the reactions and congratulatory send-offs around the league, one of Griffin's former teammates, DeAndre Jordan, doesn't sound so impressed with Griffin's decision to retire after 13 seasons.
Jordan, spoke on Griffin's retirement news, taking to the media as Denver takes a 1-0 postseason series lead over the Lakers.
Jordan poked fun at Blake's retirement news, calling Griffin a "quitter" as Jordan also deals with the aches and pains of being 35 but still putting in work with the Nuggets.
"First off, Blake's a quitter; can't believe that guy," Jordan said on Sunday in a video shared by Lakers reporter Dave McMenamin.
Despite the funny poke at Griffin, Jordan can only view that news as a sign of things to come in his career.
Jordan and Griffin played together as part of the Los Angeles Clippers from 2009 to 2018, and it's nice to see the lasting respect between these guys.
DeAndre Jordan and Griffin spearheaded a renaissance period for the Clippers, elevating the franchise into a perennial postseason competitor after decades of no real (or consistent) star power.
Jordan and Griffin were true-blooded Clippers, which prompted a sect of their fanbase to call for their jerseys to receive an immortal spot in the Clippers' new venue, the Intuit Dome, when it opens this August.
Griffin finished second all-time in points scored in Clippers franchise history (10,863) behind Randy Smith (12,735).
This week, Warriors guard and former Clipper Chris Paul shared a text sent to him by DJ, regarding Griffin's retirement.
"Damn, there will never be another Blake Griffin," Paul shared, reading DeAndre Jordan's text.
