Former NFL Coach Bill O'Brien Nearing Deal With ACC Team: REPORT
Bill O'Brien reportedly is nearing a deal to lead the Boston College football program.
O'Brien was recently hired by Ohio State to be the OC of the Buckeyes, but it appears that deal will come to an end before coaching a single snap.
After a couple weeks of speculation that O'Brien could land in Boston, it now looks like that will happen. Pete Thamel reported Friday morning that the two sides are "working toward a deal to" make the former Penn State head coach the new leader of the Eagles.
Boston College nearing deal with Bill O'Brien.
This is a great hire for the Eagles. Just on name recognition alone, this is a huge deal for the ACC program. Let's take a look at Bill O'Brien's history:
- 15-9 record at Penn State during heavy sanctions
- 52-48 record as the head coach of the Houston Texans.
- Two seasons as the OC at Alabama, including Bryce Young's Heisman year.
- A disappointing 2023 season as the OC in New England
- A VERY brief stint at Ohio State as the OC of the Buckeyes.
Now, he's reportedly taking over the Boston College Eagles. It's hard to imagine the team could have scored a bigger name. Bill O'Brien has serious NFL connections, ties to the two greatest football coaches ever - Nick Saban and Bill Belichick - and managed to win with a Penn State program that had been gutted.
Is it a guarantee he'll be a success at Boston College? No. It's not an easy place to win. With the split between the SEC and Big Ten and everyone else only getting wider, odds are the situation will only get more difficult.
However, he should be able to provide a recruiting boost thanks to his connections that Boston College otherwise wouldn't have had.
The internet reacts to the news.
There were also plenty of people who found the news to be very funny seeing as how he was barely at Ohio State long enough for a cup of coffee.

There are going to be some jokes if a coach only sticks around for a few weeks before cutting and running to a new job. Nature of the beast, but overall, huge hire for Boston College. Let me know your reactions at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
