Australian Swimmer Cate Campbell Continues To Throw Shade At Team USA Despite Not Qualifying For Paris

Australian swimmer Cate Campbell has found tremendous success in the pool, having won four Olympic gold medals and another four golds in the World Championships in her career. She's earned the right to talk trash, but the 32-year-old continuing to do so at the expense of Team USA is a bold choice given that she failed to qualify for the upcoming Paris Olympics.

During the 2023 World Aquatic Championship, Australia earned 13 gold medals, nearly doubling up the American tally of seven. Campbell was a member of that Aussie bunch that took down the Americans, and took the moment to bad mouth Team USA as well as the ‘Star Spangled Banner.’

"It is just so much sweeter beating America," Campbell told ‘Today' in Australia. "The first night of the competition, we did not have to hear 'Star Spangled Banner' ring out through the stadium. I cannot tell you how happy that made me."

"If I [ever] hear that song again, it will be too soon. Bring on Paris. That’s all I have to say to the U.S. Stop being sore losers."

Well, the Games in Paris are quickly approaching, and Campbell will not be there competing for her country. This hasn't stopped her from continuing to take aim at the U.S.

Campbell joined ‘Today’ in Australia again over the weekend and claimed that her comments about Team USA were "said in gest," which is hard to believe given that she explained just how sweet it is to beat America. She also went on to claim that there is "a difference between the Australian sense of humor and maybe the American."

If that sounds like a cop-out answer, that's because it is.

"It is always on between Australia and the U.S"…"It is so satisfying when we can get up over the big dogs," she continued.

Campbell's comments from 2023 gained steam again on social media earlier this month when NBC showed her original video to Michael Phelps for the first time, which drew an all-time response from the American legend.

"I appreciate your comments, Cate," Phelps said while staring directly into the camera. "If somebody said that to me, I would lose it. I would literally make them eat every word they just said about me. Cause people have done it. Chad le Clos? Ian Thorpe? You guys have all talked sh-t about me, and I had the last laugh."
