Anthony Kim Finally Sheds Light On Insurance Policy Rumors, Reveals Alarming Number Of Surgeries He's Had

Anthony Kim didn't just disappear from the world of professional golf in 2012, he essentially went into hiding.  He had not been seen or heard from since his surprise return to the sport with LIV Golf earlier this year.

One of the many rumors about Kim living a secret life for the past 12 years centered around an insurance policy. It has long been believed that Kim had an insurance policy that would pay him $10-20 million in the case of a career-ending injury and if he were to accept that money, then he would not be allowed to play on the PGA Tour again.

Given that he stepped away from the sport for over a decade, most assumed he took the money and lived a normal, albeit highly secretive life.

Fast-forward to present day, and LIV Golf represented a new opportunity for the 38-year-old, and one that included both guaranteed starts and guaranteed paydays.

As he's now two events into his LIV Golf career, Kim elected to sit down with David Feherty and finally provide some details about what exactly took place 12 years ago while also shedding some light on the rumored insurance policy.

"I'm not at liberty to talk about the details of the settlement or what happened regarding that," Kim began. "I know that public opinion is that I took this money and ran and decided that I was going to just hang out, but that wasn't the case at all."

"I had multiple, multiple surgeries in a few years and my body is still not what it used to be."

While Kim's Achilles injury in the summer of 2012 is well documented, that was far from the only ailment his body has endured over the years.

"I've had multiple shoulder surgeries, hand surgery, spinal fusion. I've had a lot of injuries and a lot of surgeries," Kim explained.

Kim may not have shed exact details involving the insurance settlement, but this is the first time he's acknowledged it as a whole since stepping away from the sport over a decade ago.

As for what he did with his life shortly after stepping away from the sport, it was apparently a whole lot of nothing.

"I didn't really leave the house, watched a lot of reality TV, ate a lot of food, and really hung out with my animals, and occasionally had a good time," Kim said, before revealing he had six dogs and two monkeys at the time.

Now Kim's life revolves around his wife and two-year-old daughter, Bella, with an occasional round of golf on one of the game's biggest circuits.
