Anthony Edwards Smacks His Skull On The Rim To Make Game-Saving Block Against Pacers
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards kept his head in the game until the final seconds in last night's tilt against the Indiana Pacers, quite literally.
Edwards and his teammates found themselves up by two points with 7.2 seconds left in regulation. He had just made the first of two free throws after the Pacers fouled him while in the bonus. With less than 10 seconds to play, he had a chance to effectively ice the game, if he sunk both shots from the charity stripe.
Mind you, Edwards had already done quite a lot to put his team in a position to win. Thanks to converting that first free throw, he had scored the Timberwolves’ previous eight points, bringing his scoring total to 44 for the night. So if he could just make this shot, he’d really be the hero of the game.
Well, he couldn’t quite sink the second shot. But he made up for that in the most epic way possible.
After the Pacers grabbed the rebound, Aaron Naismith pushed the ball in transition. He looked primed to convert a layup and then send it to overtime.
But Edwards had other ideas.
The guard tracked down Naismith and blocked his shot just before the buzzer sounded. Not only that, he jumped so high that he literally hit his head on the rim.
Edwards is 6’4", and the rim sits at 10 feet. That meant that he had to have jumped at least 44 inches to swat that shot.
He was shocked afterwards at just how high he took off to seal the win.
"I hit my head I think on the rim. It's hurting real bad and I landed on my wrist... I ain't never jumped that high in my life."
Fans got different angles of the shot. Frankly, I could watch these all day.
What a way to finish a game. The only downside is he probably woke up with a screaming headache this morning. But I don’t think he cares too much, and they make Tylenol for that.
