Golf Announcer Accuses Tiger Woods Of Taking 'A Lot Of Painkillers' During Open Championship Broadcast

Tiger Woods is plotting his way around Royal Troon during Thursday's opening round of The Open with a bunch of painkillers in his system. At least that's according to one announcer on the broadcast.

Shortly after Woods began his first round, one of the announcers on NBC's featured group's coverage felt the need to accuse the three-time Open champion of taking "a lot of painkillers" simply based on the look in his eyes.

"And you look at the eyes, you've got to think there is a lot of painkillers being taken to cope with the pain," the announcer claimed on the broadcast for the entire world to hear.

It is no secret that Woods endures some pain out on the golf course. He's undergone countless numbers of surgeries and nearly lost a leg following his car crash in February 2021. Woods has been open and honest about how difficult it is for him to walk - a pretty important piece to playing professional golf - and the damp cold conditions in Scotland certainly aren't helping his cause.

While that may all be true, a broadcaster very casually accusing someone of popping a bunch of painkillers and making that assumption based on ‘the look in his eyes’ is beyond wild.

It would be no surprise at all to learn that Woods takes some form of medication to help alleviate any pain while out on the golf course, but that isn't some well-documented fact.

There is a significant difference between thinking to yourself that Woods may be on pain medications and sharing those thoughts out loud.

Woods is off to a slow start at Royal Troon having carded a 4-over 40 on his opening nine holes.
