Angel Reese, Sheryl Swoopes Celebrate Chicago Sky's First Victory Over Their Common Enemy, Caitlin Clark

Other than Angel Reese, the person who expressed the most excitement about the Chicago Sky’s win over the Indiana Fever was former WNBA star Sheryl Swoopes.

For the first time in her young professional career, Reese emerged victorious in a matchup against Caitlin Clark. She was the star of the game for the Sky, notching 25 points and 16 rebounds, leading Chicago to a tense 88-87 victory.

After the game, Reese rushed to someone in the crowd to celebrate the victory. It wasn’t her mom or a close friend. It was Swoopes, who has been a mentor to Reese for several years.

After the game, Reese mentioned to ESPN’s Holly Rowe that she promised Swoopes would see one of her best games ever.

"I'm gonna put on a show for you," Reese said to Swoopes before the game started.

It’s no wonder why Swoopes was excited. On multiple occasions, she has done all she can to diminish the legacy of Clark, both at the college and professional level. So seeing her young mentee finally beat the woman that both she and Reese thoroughly disregard would obviously put a smile on her face.

However, like Clark did earlier this week, she refused to add any fuel to the fire in her rivalry with Clark, saying that games against her are nothing more than games.

"It’s just good competition," she said.

Maybe that’s true. But for Swoopes, it was probably a little extra special.
