Angel Reese Continues Record Double-Double Streak Despite Abysmal Shooting In Sky Loss

The streak continues! Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese extended her WNBA record double-double streak to 15 games against the New York Liberty on Thursday night.

She had exactly 10 points and exactly 10 rebounds.

Now, her streak probably should have ended on Wednesday afternoon, but the team forced her the ball rather than running out the rest of the clock to make sure that she secured the points she needed.

Reese hit two meaningless free throws with less than seven seconds remaining to give her 11 points in the game, continuing the streak.

After the game, teammate Chennedy Carter said that her teammates, coach and Reese herself demanded that she pass the ball to Reese so that the rookie could keep her streak alive.

So, of course, Reese is on a mission to keep the streak going, no matter what that entails.

Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese got her double-double, but it took her 17 shots to score 10 points against the New York Liberty.

On Thursday night, Reese missed more than 70 percent of the shots she attempted.

But hey, she kept shooting until she got those 10 points! Reese went 5-17 from the field against the Liberty, a contest the Sky lost 91-76.

According to the WNBA official play-by-play log of the game, 10 of Reese's missed shots came on layups.

And she had several of those layups blocked, like this one:

In addition, of the 17 shots that Reese attempted, just one came from more than 10 feet away from the basket and only two came from more than eight feet.

So, it's not that Reese shot the basketball poorly, per se. It's more that she couldn't convert from inside five feet. That's a problem that OutKick pointed out earlier this week

It's also worth mentioning that three of Reese's 10 rebounds came on her own missed layups.

Nonetheless, the WNBA made sure to celebrate her "accomplishment."

Despite the double-double streak, Angel Reese isn't a very efficient offensive player.

She gets almost all of her shot attempts within eight feet of the basket – most within five feet – and she still shoots just 41 percent from the field.

While that should get better as she gains experience in the league, it's a hole in her game that should be addressed and discussed.

Angel Reese is a talented player and has a lot of upside.

But for those clamoring for her to win the WNBA's Rookie of the Year Award, let's pump the brakes and assess the full body of work, shall we?
