Angel Reese Barks Back At Fan Over Bad Black Transgender WNBA Joke
Angel Reese barked back at a fan who got a little too cutesy with the transgender jokes on Twitter.
The ex-LSU star took exception to a remark regarding Dallas Wings players Kalani Brown and Teaira McCowan. Now, did I know who those two were before Reese interjected herself into the conversation and went viral?
No, of course not.
But, this is why players like Reese and Caitlin Clark are tasked with growing the game. Seems to be working, because here I am blogging about the WNBA on a Saturday morning. What a time to be alive.
Anyway, back to Reese …
One fan took the low-hanging fruit sitting there in front of him and made a joke about the two ladies looking like a couple of transgenders during their media day shoot earlier this week. Reese, who doesn't even play for the Wings, had enough.
"yall never seen black tall women that are FINE???" she said. "yall so weird & insecure and it SHOWS!!!"
Angel Reese was right in calling this guy out
Look, it was a silly thing to say. You just can't do that. Well, you can, but you're gonna catch heat for it – rightfully so.
I mean, what are we doing here? It wasn't even a good joke. Maybe if there was an ounce of creativity behind it, I'd cut the guy some slack. But no. Just took the easy route and got dragged through the mud for it.
I also don't know why the ladies being black has anything to do with any of it, but both Angel and the community noters felt the need to point it out, so I guess I will too.
There's a big difference between being angry at the whole transgenders-in-female-sports debate – which is ridiculous and absurd – and being angry at trans people in general. You can certainly do both if you'd like – it's a free country – but making them the butt of a joke won't fly. Maybe at a roast, but not on social media. Not in 2024.
Especially not when Angel Reese is out there policing the WNBA Twitter streets! And by the way, I don't know exactly where Reese stands, but this little tweet from a few months back may give us an idea:
If only the woke WNBA and Dawn Staley would follow suit. Instead, they don't – because they don't want to get canceled – and, by extension, make all of this all 100 times worse by not nipping it in the bud when the trans movement started years ago.
Dawn – and OutKick! – set the world on fire last month when she said trans women should be allowed to play women's college basketball – again, silly – and we all know where the WNBA stands on this. Well, I guess we don't technically know for sure, but we have a pretty good idea. Ain't hard to piece that puzzle together.
I mean, Sue Bird – one of the most recognizable WNBA names ever – became a minority owner of the Seattle Storm just last month, and her and insufferable Megan Rapinoe are obsessed with having transgender women in female sports. It's odd, but they are the biggest supporters of it in the world. Wild.
Anyway, we're getting off track. The bottom line? Angel Reese was certainly in the right for calling this weirdo out. It was a dumb joke to make, and give Reese credit for jumping in.
Well, her and Elon's community noters! What an addition that's been, huh?
