Andrey Rublev Disqualified Mid-Match In Bizarre Scene After Official Accuses Him Of Cursing In Russian

Andrey Rublev was disqualified from the Dubai Tennis Championship on Friday during his semifinal match against Alexander Bublik in what turned into a truly bizarre scene on the court.

Battling in the decisive third set tied up at 5-5, Rublev lost a point after sailing a forehand shot long. During the changeover, Rublev walked over to a line judge and began screaming in his face. The official who took the brunt of the exchange didn't show any emotion at all, but seconds later, another official standing by accused Rublev of saying the word "fu-king" in his native Russian language.

The court supervisor walked to Rublev's bench with the official who claimed to have heard him say the f-word, which then led to all hell breaking loose.

Rublev was adamant, saying "I didn't say fu-king, what do you mean fu-king?" while claiming he was yelling at the line judge in English.

The court supervisor didn't buy Rublev's explanation and the chair umpire forced the No. 5 player in the world to default in the match.

Bublik was stunned by the decision from the officials as well. While Rublev began packing his equipment in his bag, Bublik turned to the chair umpire and said "I'm ok to continue." Boos from the fans in attendance rained down after the decision as they were hoping to see the conclusion of the match be played out instead of being gifted to Bublik.

There is certainly a fine line tennis players have to abide by, especially emotional players such as Rublev. Screaming in the face of a line judge and allegedly shouting the f-word is a major no-no, but that doesn't make the scene on Friday any less bizarre with multiple officials and a court supervisor getting involved in the drama.

Rublev will lose all of his ranking points and prize money from the week following his disqualification.
