Alec Bohm Has A Night To Remember Exactly Two Years After Saying He Hated Philadelphia
Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm will never be able to live down his infamous quote from two years ago.
On April 11, 2022, Bohm had a night to forget at Citizens Bank Park. In just the first two innings of a game against the New York Mets, he committed three errors in consecutive innings. First Baseman Rhys Hoskins (who is now sliding into middle infielders for the Milwaukee Brewers) got a lot of cardio in chasing down Bohm’s errant throws.
Finally, he fielded a ground ball and completed a throw late in the second inning, and Phillies fans rained a sarcastic cheer on Bohm. That’s when he dropped his infamous "I f—ing hate this place" line.
Bohm later apologized, saying that he appreciated Philadelphia fans’ desire to support a winning franchise.
"These people, these fans, they just want to win. I mean, you heard it when we came back," Bohm said. "They’re great. I’m sorry to them. I don’t mean that. Emotions just got the best of me."
Exactly two years after his infamous line, Bohm had a night to remember against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the third baseman hit a moonshot home run to straightaway center to open up the scoring.
In the bottom of the ninth and the Phillies up 5-1, Bohm made a sliding catch in foul territory after Pirates catcher Henry Davis popped up. That prompted play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy to emphatically shout "he loves this place!"
Time heals all wounds, and it looks like both Bohm and Phillies fans have healed from that forgettable night two years ago. Who knew that this fanbase had such a capacity to let go of grudges?
