Mystical Night: Kentucky Derby Won By Mystik Dan

It was a mystical night for Mystik Dan at the Kentucky Derby.

The 2024 edition of the Kentucky Derby marked the 150th running of the world's most famous horse race.

As usual, a litany of celebrities, personalities and athletes descended on Churchill Downs in Louisville for the weekend's festivities.

A whopping 156,710 fans packed the track for the race, yet another massive number for the Derby. Fierceness was the pre-race favorite heading into Saturday, at 3-1 odds. Sierra Leone, Forever Young and Catching Freedom were also viewed as top contenders.

Fierceness fell back however, after leading for most of the race.

In a wild, photo finish, Mystik Dan, generally an 18-1 underdog, took the win by the narrowest of margins. A massive win for trainer Ken McPeek and jockey Brian Hernandez.

Kentucky Derby Delivers Again

The most exciting two minutes in sports never fails to deliver, and the 150th edition featured a close battle out of the gate, before finishing in one of the closest battles in Derby history.

Sierra Leone finished second, with Forever Young coming in third.

Another classic Derby, with Mystik Dan set to look to take home the second leg of the Triple Crown at The Preakness Stakes on May 18th and The Belmont Stakes on June 4th.
