$2.3 Million Lotus Electric Hypercar Attempts Hill Climb, Crashes Immediately
It doesn't matter how much money a race car is worth if it can't make it to the finish line in one piece, and that's what happened to a $2.3 million Lotus Evija X that was taking part in the Goodwood Festival of Speed but barely got past the starting line before crashing into hay bales.
If you're unfamiliar with the Goodwood Festival of Speed, it's a really cool event that happens over in England. It's a celebration of all things racing with all kinds of events. This year, Richard Petty and Red Bull Racing were some of the honorees throughout the weekend.
The most iconic competition at the event is the hill climb which involves cars starting at the bottom of a windy incline and racing to the finish. You'll see everything from race cars to antique cars to the most cutting-edge cars on the planet taking part in this event.
On the cutting-edge side is the Lotus Evija X, an all-electric hypercar that is capable of hitting 200 mph thanks to the 2,000hp powertrain.
The car already has a track record at the 12.9 mile Nurburgring Nordschleife, but it barely got 12 yards off the line at Goodwood Festival of speed.
That makes your wallet hurt from just looking at it.
It sure looked like those 2,000 horses and the instant torque that comes with an EV got the best of the driver.
Can you imagine traveling to the festival, getting the car charged up and ready to go, then standing there all self-satisfied with your arms folded waiting to hear the crowd react to the awesome power of one of the world's most powerful EVs, only for that to happen?
Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident… well, hurt physically, there was definitely at least one bruised ego.
