Canada Calls On Countries To Pull Winter Olympics Out Of China With Unanimous Vote

China's treatment of its Uighur minority is now being recognized as genocide in Canada. On Monday, the vote passed 266-0 with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his cabinet choosing to abstain.

Canada is now the second country to determine that China's actions are considered genocide. The United States was the first to give such label. It was a decision that was made back when former President Donald J. Trump was still in office.

According to a tweet from Dave Lawler with Axios, Canada is now calling upon the International Olympic Committee to move the 2022 Olympic games. Those games are currently scheduled to take place in Beijing in February of 2022.

This comes days after conservative leader Erin O'Toole called for 2022 Winter Olympic to be relocated for the same reason.

"I think Canadians would agree that it would violate universal fundamental ethical principles to participate in an Olympic Games hosted by a country that is committing a genocide against part of its population," O'Toole said at a press conference, via CBC. "Canada must take a stand."

O'Toole then went as far as to say that if things don't change and relocation isn't possible, then Canada should consider pulling athletes out from participating.

"It's only if is not possible and there's no change in conduct by the state of China that we should examine whether our athletes compete," O'Toole continued.

It's good to see more and more countries beginning to take a stand. Now if only we could get a few organizations, notably the NBA, to adopt a similar stance of fighting against this ongoing genocide.
