Tampa Bay Lightning Unveil New Stanley Cup Championship Rings; Includes 557 Diamonds

The Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning have unveiled their rings from the 2019-20 title run that saw them win the Cup in late September.

The Lightning defeated the Dallas Stars four games to two in Edmonton, Alberta. It was the first championship since 2004 for Tampa Bay.

The championship ring for Tampa features 557 diamonds and 81 sapphires set in 14-karat gold.

Assistant coach Derek Lalonde could feel a buzz around the Lightning locker room Friday afternoon after practice. It only made sense with the team’s Stanley Cup ring ceremony that evening.

“Everything we’ve done around the success of winning that Stanley Cup has been first class, so there’s high expectations of what that ring’s going to be about and what it looks like,” Assistant coach Derek Lalonde

“It’s an accomplishment of a lifetime ... the boys are excited.”

As well they should, as Tampa worked hard to get back to the Cup after failing as the number one overall seed the season prior in one of the biggest upsets in NHL history to the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first round.

The Lightning finished second in the Eastern Conference in the shortened season due to the pandemic, going 43-21-6, finishing second to the Boston Bruins in the Conference.

In the postseason Tampa dominated, getting their revenge on the Blue Jackets four games to one, then beating the #1 seed Bruins four games to one.

They outlasted the New York Islanders four games to two in the Eastern Conference Finals, then beat Dallas four games to two to earn the rings they will be proudly displaying for the rest of history.
