Sabres-Islanders 15th NHL Game Postponed This Season

The 15th NHL game of the 2020-21 season has officially been postponed, as Tuesday's matchup between the Buffalo Sabres and New York Islanders will not be played as scheduled.

The game was postponed due to the league’s COVID protocol.

The two teams were set to faceoff on Tuesday at 6pm, and were supposed to play against one another again on Thursday evening at Nassau Coliseum.

"Due to weather conditions yesterday, the Sabres altered their travel schedule so as to fly today to New York. So that required COVID contact tracing and testing protocols can be completed appropriately, the decision has been made to re-schedule the game for a future date," the NHL said in a release.

The Sabres played the Devils over the weekend, though New Jersey is in the midst of a COVID-19 outbreak. They currently have 10 players in COVID-19 protocol. The two teams played a pair of games, despite the number of Devils who were unable to take the ice.

Buffalo beat New Jersey on Saturday 4-3 in a shootout and then lost to the Devils 5-3 Sunday.

The Athletic reports that the Sabres were upset with the NHL for withholding information about the COVID outbreak in New Jersey.

The Sabres dropped to 4-4-2 after their loss last Sunday, while the Islanders are in the midst of a five-game winless streak and sit at 3-4-2.
