OMG, Costly Giveaway By Vegas Goalie Fleury Is An All-Timer
Not since the days of Steve Buzinski has there been as bad of a play from an NHL goalie than the soul-crushing flop from Marc-Andre Fleury on Friday night.
Less than a week after being awarded Save of the Year from NHL fans, the Golden Knights' Marc-Andre Fleury gave up one of the worst scores possible in a tense Stanley Cup Semifinal series against the Canadiens.
Gathering a loose puck behind the net, Fleury mishandled and sent the puck right into opponent Josh Anderson's path. The Canadiens forward delivered the wandering puck in for a score to capitalize off the errant turnover.
Teammates delivered their support for Fleury, including captain Mark Stone and Reilly Smith in post-game interviews.
“Fleury’s played great for us all year,” said Stone. “It’s one mistake. We had to bail him out. We did not play the way we played for the first 60 of the game in overtime.”
"He’s stood on his head for us all season," said Smith. “Goals like that are going to happen with bad bounces and ice when you’re playing into the summer. It’s not a really big deal. We just have to move forward. We should’ve done a better job in overtime closing it out.”
Winning the majority of the contest against the Habs after finishing the game with a 45-27 shot advantage, Las Vegas hopes that an acute Fleury in Game 4 will eliminate the human error that fueled this win by the Canadiens.
The win bumps Montreal to a 2-1 series lead against the Las Vegas Golden Knights, with a determined Fleury surely to rebound.
