NHL Star Evander Kane Accused Of Using Fake Vax Card
San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane is being investigated over allegations he used a fake COVID-19 vaccination card.
The NHL has not spelled out what the COVID violation punishments are, but Front Office Sports reports it was made clear that a “lack of compliance will result in significant Club and individual sanctions, including potential forfeiture of games, fines and reimbursements of expenses, loss of draft choices, and/or ineligibility for participation in training activities.”
FOS reports that beyond possible NHL sanctions, using a fake vaccination card is illegal both in the U.S. and Canada. A person who buys, sells or uses a counterfeit COVID-19 vaccination card faces up to five years in prison under U.S. federal law.
The Sharks star was subject to an investigation related to a violation of COVID-19 protocols, although the specific reason for the inquiry was not specified, Sportsnet reported on Sept. 28.
The Sharks star is also being investigated for domestic assault allegations made by his estranged wife, Anna Kane, in the recent divorce filing, ESPN reports. The NHL has begun interviews on the case, and there is no timeline for a completion of the investigation.
Kane was cleared in September of the allegations his estranged wife made claiming he gambled on league games, with the league saying it found no evidence to support those allegations.
The 30-year-old is three seasons into a $49 million, seven-year contract and is with his third organization after being drafted by Atlanta/Winnipeg and making a stop in Buffalo.
