Alex Ovechkin Signs New Deal With Caps, Will Stay There Til He Is 41

Alex Ovechkin has signed a five-year, $47.5 million extension that'll keep him with the Washington Capitals until he's 41. Feels right for the captain to finish his hall of fame career in Washington.

The 2004 first overall pick currently sits sixth all-time with 730 goals, and most importantly, a Stanley Cup title back in 2018. Anything he does now is icing on the cake.

He's essentially the Carmelo Anthony of hockey if Anthony had ever managed to capture a championship with the Knicks. A total legend who has stayed loyal to the Capitals for 16 seasons, so it's nice to see him in control at the end of his career. A sweet look for hockey overall that hardly any other sports can emulate.

Back in May, Ovechkin told ESPN "it was important for me to support the D.C. community."

He delivered by leaving the same way he showed up -- a capital.
