Washington Football Team To Stick With 'WFT' As Team Name For 2021; Then A New Name Coming In 2022

Get ready for another NFL season with the team in Washington being referred to as the "Washington Football Team."

NBC Sports Washington reports that the organization is determined to stick with the "WFT" for at the very least the 2021 season.

Washington president Jason Wright announced the name staying the same for the 2021 season, and the club will finally have a new nickname and colors come early in 2022.

"The new name and logo will be revealed in early 2022, Wright said.

"It will retain the traditional burgundy and gold colors that are entrenched in the team’s history."

It was a year ago this week the team dumped the name "Redskins" which was the nickname from 1937 to 2019. Many die-hard Washington fans were upset that the club was going to change their name, but winning the NFC East helped calm a lot of nerves last season.

The club has gone over 40,000 name and logo submissions from fans, but it sounds like it'll be early 2022 until we get a new name and color scheme.

Washington won five of their last seven games to clinch the division on the last game of the season against the rival Eagles.

The team got an eduction in the playoffs, as Tom Brady and Tampa Bay came into town and knocked Washington out of the playoffs 31-23.
