Vikings Rookie Jaylen Twyman Shot, Expected To Recover

Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman Jaylen Twyman and several others were the victims of a shooting in Washington, D.C. on Monday. According to a tweet from Adam Schefter with ESPN, the rookie sixth-round pick out of Pitt was visiting his aunt when he was shot four times.

The good news is that Twyman suffered superficial exit wounds and will not need surgery. And according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, he's expected to make a full recovery.

"Wrong place, wrong time," Rosenhaus told Schefter with ESPN following the scary incident. "In talking to him today, he's going to be OK -- that's all that matters. We're thankful he's OK. He will make a full recovery."

The Vikings also released a statement about the 21-year-old on social media soon after the news.

"Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Jaylen Twyman was one of several victims wounded during a shooting in Washington, D.C. today," the statement ready. "We have been in direct contact with Jaylen and his family, and we are extremely thankful Jaylen is expected to make a full recovery. At this time we will defer any further comment to the proper authorities."

Twyman was the No. 199 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. It's possible that he could've gone higher, but he chose to opt out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, Twyman led the Panthers in sacks with 10.5.

Since he led his team in sacks as an interior defensive lineman and is 6-foot-2, 290 pounds, many have compared him to another former Pitt defensive tackle, Aaron Donald. That's probably a bit of a stretch, but Twyman is a good player regardless.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for Twyman and everyone else involved in the shooting.
