Vikings CB Patrick Peterson Paved The Way For Beckham To Attend LSU

When Odell Beckham Jr. takes the field Sunday afternoon in Minnesota, he'll be lined up across from the guy who encouraged him to commit to LSU many years ago. That guy is Patrick Peterson, an 11-year NFL vet who is playing his first season with the Vikings.

“ part of the reason why Jarvis and I went to LSU," said Beckham, per the Akron Beacon Journal. "He was, like, one of those people that inspired the culture there. So we've always looked up to him. This is always someone who I have a deep respect for, and I've always loved his game."

Sunday will mark OBJ's second game on the field since last season's ACL injury. In his 2021 debut last weekend, Beckham hauled in five passes for 77 yards in a win over Chicago.

He should have a tougher time accumulating or surpassing those numbers come Sunday. Peterson is one of the league's top cover corners. He has earned eight trips to the Pro Bowl and been named an All-Pro in three seasons.

"He's a phenomenal corner. He's been 10-plus years. I still look at him as one of the best corners in the league," Beckham added. It's always exciting. I haven't gotten to match up with him too many times, but it's always exciting to be able to see him play and go against him.”
