Tyrod Taylor May Not Return To Deshaun Watson-Less Texans Anytime Soon

Time to bust out those Davis Mills jerseys, Texans fans! Scratch that. Time to go buy a Davis Mills jersey, since your wardrobe likely doesn't include any Mills threads, unless you're a relative of Mills or a Stanford fanboy. Starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor is still on the mend, and Deshaun Watson is busy getting a massage, so it's go time for Mills.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that a bum hamstring already has Taylor slated to miss Thursday's game with Carolina, and a stint on IR could be looming. Taylor heads to the sidelines after a surprisingly efficient start to the season. He threw two touchdowns in a season-opening win versus Jacksonville, then completed 10 of 11 passes with a touchdown in Sunday's loss to Cleveland. Taylor added a rushing score before exiting the game due to the balky hamstring.

Watson would seem to be a logical replacement and upgrade to Taylor, but head coach David Culley and the Texans organization have already stated that Watson will remain inactive while the team attempts to trade him.

That leaves the Houston offense firmly in the hands of rookie Mills, whose NFL debut had all the excitement of a sip & paint. Upon replacing Watson, Mills finished 8 of 18 for 102 yards, a touchdown and a pick.

Culley seems undeterred by news of the Taylor injury, telling Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle: "Our team has the utmost confidence in Davis."
