Two Browns Players Cited For Drag Racing - One Claims His 'Foot Slipped'

The Cleveland Browns didn't exactly have a Tuesday to remember, as their head coach and a couple members of their team and coaching staff were shut down for Sunday's playoff game due to testing positive for the COVID-19 virus.

That's not the only issue the team had though, as they start to get ready to face the rival Steelers on Sunday. Tuesday night, word came out that two players from the team were cited for drag racing.

The two players were rookie offensive linemen Jedrick Willis Jr. and wide receiver Rashard Higgins.

"We are aware of the incident, will gather more information and handle this matter appropriately," a team spokesman said.

The incident took place early on Tuesday morning, about 10 miles away from where the Browns practice. Police on the scene wrote each man a ticket with a $124 fine. They also did a probable cause search in one of the vehicles for a suspected marijuana joint, but neither was cited for it.

Tuesday night, Higgins took to Twitter to defend himself in the incident, giving the old "foot slipped" excuse for his excessive speed.

Higgins has become a favorite target of Baker Mayfield in 2020. He caught 37 passes for 599 yards and four scores during the regular season.

Willis has started all but one game for the Browns as a rookie.
