Tony Pollard Set To Expand Role With Cowboys

Cowboys running back Tony Pollard doesn't wear a crop top, but he still plans to show off this season. Entering his third campaign as the backup to Ezekiel Elliot, Pollard is set for an expanded role in Dallas that could include work in the return game. If you ask Pollard, he's ready to flash.

“I pretty much have the running game down,” said Pollard per KSAT.com. “Now it’s about taking my game to the next level, expanding my role.”

In addition to toting the rock, Pollard's expected be used as an option in the passing game and as a returner. Last fall, Pollard hauled in 28 receptions and returned 32 kicks. His return skills are legit. As a do-everything type at the University of Memphis, he tied an FBS record with 7 career kick return scores.

New Cowboys special teams coach John Fassel is looking to give Pollard more opportunities in the kicking game, especially since it will allow stud receiver/returner CeeDee Lamb to grab some rest. “I think that’s something we are starting to look at, getting different guys back there since CeeDee has a big load on offense as a receiver,” Fassel told KSAT.com.

With a healthy Dak Prescott under center and an offense resembling the days of the triplets, Pollard and the Cowboys expect big things, as long as they can stay out of their own way. “I feel like our biggest opponent is us," commented Pollard. "So long as we don’t beat ourselves, who knows.”

We'll have our first glimpse of Pollard's expanded role Thursday evening when Dallas and Pittsburgh square off in the annual Hall of Fame game.
