There is 'Growing Buzz' that Texans Will Hire Jim Caldwell
The NFL coaching carousel has been spinning for a week now, and there haven't been any new hires yet. So it would appear as though we still have a good bit of time for the rumor mill to churn. The latest rumblings come from Mike Florio, who reports that "a buzz is building in league circles" that the Houston Texans could hire Jim Caldwell to be their next head coach.
Caldwell, 65, had a record of 62-50 in the regular season in seven years with the Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions. After consecutive 9-7 seasons, the Lions fell off a cliff when they replaced Caldwell with Matt Patricia.
The elephant in the room is whether this hire will satisfy Deshaun Watson. The star QB apparently wants out of Houston because he believes the front office broke a promise to him when they hired Nick Caserio to be the new GM without consulting him. My two cents on the matter is that it is highly unlikely they could replace Watson with a better quarterback anytime soon. Therefore, it's in their best interest to hire a coach that Watson likes.
