Texans Still Won't Budge On Watson, Niners Sound Like They've Already Made An Offer
The Houston Texans remain steadfast in not wanting to trade their franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson, despite the fact that Watson has expressed his unhappiness and his desire to move on to another organization.
Every team that is in the mix for a quarterback is watching the situation in Houston closely, but for now the Texans keep pretending that everything is going to be just fine once the quarterback is in the building and that everyone can get on the same page again.
I would not be so sure of that.
Watson sounds like he is ready to dig in and demand out, and Houston is eventually going to have to start listening to offers for his services.
One team that very much is interested in Watson is San Francisco, and on Monday, Peter King wrote in his Football Morning in America article that a couple of teams have actually given the Texans offers for Watson.
“At least two teams have given offers to Houston and gotten zero feedback.”
It wouldn't be a surprise if the Niners were one of those teams.
King continued about a potential match between the Niners and Watson and what exactly it might take to get the Texans to start taking their calls.
"If the Niners could convince (Jimmy) Garoppolo to waive his no-trade clause, I could see San Francisco being all in here, even though the Niners clearly would have to part with some major assets, perhaps including the young nerve center of their defense,” King stated.
“Linebacker Fred Warner is such a rising star, however, that his re-signing in San Francisco in the next 12 months might affect the franchise’s ability to keep other great young players (Nick Bosa?) in house.”
If you're keeping track, that means the Niners would send three current players, including Garoppolo, who would step right in at quarterback for the Texans, and four draft picks, including two first-round picks (one in 2021 and one in 2022).
Watson's on the wish list for a lot of teams around the league, and if San Francisco's offer isn't enough, expect Denver, Chicago, Washington, New England, Miami and the New York Jets to throw their hats in the ring, if they haven't already.
