Teams Calling About Zach Ertz, Trade Expected In Coming Days

The rebuilding process continues for the Philadelphia Eagles. The team has moved on from several key members of the offense. Maybe not key members from this past season, but over the last several years.

Players such as Carson Wentz, Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson are gone. Now, it looks like longtime tight end Zach Ertz could be the next one to go.

According to Mike Silver with the NFL Network, multiple teams have called Philadelphia about trading for Ertz. Two sources familiar with the situation told Silver that a move could happen in the coming days.

Ertz is only 30 years old, so he should still have a few more good years left in him. Prior to 2020, the Stanford product had a five-year run as one of the top producing tight ends in the NFL. Here were his numbers during that five-year stretch:

His best season came in 2018 when he brought in 116 catches for 1,163 yards and eight touchdowns. Can he still perform at that level? Probably not, but he can still be an effective pass-catcher/blocker for an offense.

There were rumors a few weeks ago that the Eagles were discussing a trade with the Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts.

Seattle makes the most sense and would give Russell Wilson another weapon -- if he stays -- after losing Greg Olsen to retirement. Indianapolis doesn't make as much sense on paper with Jack Doyle and Mo-Alie Cox on the roster, but it would reunite Ertz with Wentz and Frank Reich.

Other options are the Bills, Patriots, Bengals and Cardinals. Or maybe the Ravens or Packers will continue to have interest in the former three-time Pro Bowler. Both teams made offers for him before last season's trade deadline.
