Tampa Bay GM: Tom Brady Can Play Until He's 50

Tom Brady will have to retire one day, but did we really think he was almost done?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said on Monday he doesn’t see the veteran quarterback slowing down anytime soon.

On The Rich Eisen Show on Monday, Eisen asked Licht if the team’s recent contract extension for Brady felt like the legendary quarterback’s last deal, The Spun reports.

While Licht didn’t want to share private information about his discussions with Brady, he said he didn't see Brady slowing down.

“None. I want to keep most of those conversations private, but no inkling at all,” Licht told Eisen. “I told him if he wants to play until he’s 50 and he still feels like he can play, then he can play until he’s 50.”

Licht also told Brady he can play as long as he wants earlier this month.

“Tom’s gonna play as long as Tom wants to play,” Licht told reporters last week, per The Spun. “He’s earned that right.”

The Buccaneers selected Florida quarterback Kyle Trask as a potential successor to Brady in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Trask has plenty of time to learn from and develop under one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time — assuming Brady will continue to play at an elite level — so the Buccaneers likely won’t have to worry about making a quarterback change anytime soon.
