Steelers GM Colbert Says Team Open To Idea Of Taking QB In Draft

The 2020 Pittsburgh Steelers started 11-0, only to fall apart thanks to shoddy play by the team's offense and letdowns at key times by the club's defense.

This offseason, they had to decide what to do about franchise and future Hall of Fame QB Ben Roethlisberger and the QB position in general.

The team got things settled with their longtime QB, working on a contract to keep him around so that they could afford to bring him back for one more year.

This doesn't mean that the club isn't keeping their quarterback options open, especially with the draft closing in late this week.

The franchise needs to figure out a long term quarterback. If there's one thing about the Steelers, it's that they want to make sure that the rest of the club has confidence in their QB.

It's a longshot to think the Steelers are going to score one of the 'Big 5' QBs available in the weekend's draft: Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Mac Jones, Trey Lance, and Justin Fields.

That doesn't mean the team won't draft a quarterback though. It just means they'll likely do so later in the draft.

Monday general manager Kevin Colbert addressed the media in a pre-draft presser, and was, of course, asked about the quarterback position and the future of the team.

Big Ben leads the way at the QB spot, but there are a couple interesting names on the backups list as well.

Mason Rudolph, Dwayne Haskins Jr. and Josh Dobbs are three other players on the roster who could make things interesting moving forward.
