Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll Praises Newly-Acquired Tight End Gerald Everett

When the Seattle Seahawks inked Gerald Everett to a contract this past offseason, they didn't know what type of impact he would have on the team's offense.

Last season with the Los Angeles Rams, Everett caught 41 passes for 417 yards and a touchdown. Many have been waiting for him to have a breakout season, and he might just have that chance in Seattle.

He's already got one big advocate in his corner: head coach Pete Carroll. The Seahawks coach spoke specifically about Everett on “Danny and Gallant” on KIRO-AM in Seattle.

“I think you’re going to be really excited to see Gerald Everett,” Carroll said. “Gerald is a guy who comes to us from the Rams out of free agency who was acquired by the Rams while Shane was there. Shane was responsible for coaching him up.

“This is, I think, the fanciest, sweetest-looking receiver/tight end mix that we’ve had. He’s like a wide receiver. He’s got terrific after-the-catch run ability, really aggressive, and he’s a good blocker, too. And he knows the system inside and out. What Gerald brings us is a real threat in the throwing game. Should be a big factor on third down.

“And our tight end spot is a good position already with Will (Dissly), and you’re going to see Colby Parkinson coming up – he’s been really impressive. But Gerald is a really unique player, and he should catch a lot of balls and be right in the middle of the action this year.”

Seattle has had issues looking for an impactful tight end. Jacob Hollister caught 25 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns, but he left in free agency. Will Dissly caught 24 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns, and Greg Olsen caught 24 passes for 239 yards and one touchdown, but he decided to retire after the season.

It sounds like Carroll is ready for Everett to be the top TE target next season. We'll see whether the former South Alabama Jaguars pass catcher takes advantage of it.
